Tim Rotolo
began playing piano at age five. His interest in ragtime was sparked
during visits to Disneyland; during one visit, the audience at
Coke Corner was asked if anyone would like to play, and Tim, taking
up the offer, caught the attention of the afternoon’s featured
performer. He was soon introduced to Johnny Hodges, a longtime
Main Street pianist, and studied with him for three years. Tim
also studied for several years with Patrick Aranda. Tim plays
an eclectic mix of time-worn tunes from Joplin to Jolson, Louis
Armstrong and Glenn Miller; ragtime, honky-tonk, boogie, and blues
all figure into his set lists.
He has two CDs, Re-keyed and Dust &
Ivory, and a website, www.timrotolo.com.
Tim is a recent graduate of Claremont McKenna College, with a
degree in International Relations — he speaks Chinese, and
last year he spent a semester abroad in Taipei, Taiwan. He currently
works as an analyst and marketer at a tech start-up. He has performed
at the West Coast and Sutter Creek ragtime festivals. This is
his first appearance at RagFest.
